What Is a Photofractional?
The photofractional is a combination treatment designed to simultaneously treat a range of skin aging concerns. By combining the benefits of IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) and ResurFX non-ablative skin resurfacing, the photofractional provides noticeable results for pigmentation, age and sun spots, fine lines, and the overall appearance of your skin. The photofractional is an ideal treatment for patients, who are looking for a complete skin rejuvenation solution with minimal downtime.
Our photofractional treatment rejuvenates your skin by stimulating collagen regeneration over a sequence of treatments. IPL is applied first to erase pigmentation and age/sunspots. Then, the ResurFX stimulates collagen production and treats fine lines and wrinkles or other textural issues.
You may begin to notice subtle improvements in skin tone and pigmentation after just one session. However, typically, about 3 sessions are needed to see lasting visible improvements and optimal results are usually achieved after 3-5 sessions in 4 weeks intervals.
To ensure patient comfort, we apply a topical numbing cream prior to your treatment. You may experience a warm or prickling sensation as the laser is applied to your skin. However, most patients report no pain or discomfort as it is a very gentle treatment. We also provide air cooling during the treatment, if necessary. Depending on your customized laser settings, you may experience some redness or swelling immediately after the treatment. Any side effects will typically disappear within 24 hours and you are able to resume your daily activities right after.
I was a little nervous but Dawn made sure to go over in detail everything that would be happening, including pain levels. Everyone is so awesome and they make you feel very relaxed while you're there. I can't wait to go back!

Is the Photofractional safe?
Both IPL and the ResurFX are FDA cleared and very safe. The photofractional is a ‘lunch time’ treatment with minimal side effects and practically no downtime.
How should I prepare for my Photofractional?
In order to minimize the risk of any side effects occurring during or after the treatment, you should:
- Avoid tanning and limit your sun exposure
- Ensure the treated area is free of sunburns, herpes, inflammatory acne, and eczema
- Remove contact lenses or bring your contact lense case
Photofractionals cannot be performed on people with active infections, viral, fungal or bacterial diseases, inflammatory skin conditions, or skin cancer.
Is the Photofractional painful?
No, not at all! You may experience a warm and prickling sensation as the lasers are applied to your skin, but our numbing cream and cooling aid should help minimize any discomfort.
How do I care for my skin after the treatment and is there any downtime?
Some clients experience mild redness and swelling, which can last up to 24 hours. However, there is no downtime and you can return to your normal activities right after.
After your treatment, it is important to follow the instructions outlined by our staff. Avoid sun exposure for a few days post-treatment and apply full-spectrum sunscreen to the treated area every day.
How long do results last and how many treatments are needed to see results?
You may begin to notice subtle improvements in skin tone and pigmentation after just one session. However, we recommend 3-5 sessions every 4 weeks to achieve optimal results. We also recommend to schedule occasional maintenance treatments (1-2x a year) to extend the rejuvenating effects.
