What Are Neurotoxins?
By far the most popular injectable treatment, neurotoxins like Botox® or Dysport® work by blocking nerve impulses to your muscles, causing them to relax. Primarily used to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles (e.g. on your forehead, frown lines, crow’s feet or laugh lines), Botox® and Dysport® can also treat conditions such as excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), chronic migraines, temporomandibular joint (TMJ), or neck spasms (cervical dystonia).
Prior to your Botox® or Dysport® treatment, we will analyze your facial movements to determine where and how much to inject. This is important because everyone’s muscles pull differently. Both Botox® and Dysport® are FDA-approved and have virtually no side effects. You will notice the first effects within a few days of your treatment with the full results showing two weeks later.
Since its introduction in 1989, Botox® has become the most well-known cosmetic injectable. Backed by more than 16 years of research, Botox® is highly effective in treating facial lines and wrinkles.
Dysport® is another type of wrinkle relaxer often said to have better distribution underneath the skin, making it a great choice for forehead and frown lines. Some patients report to see faster results with Dysport® (within 3 days). However, when it comes to how long results last, we have not seen a difference between the two.
Botox / Dysport for Hyperhidrosis
Botox® or Dysport® can block the nerve signals responsible for excessive sweating, which stops your sweat glands from producing too much sweat. Most patients need multiple treatments, between four to six months apart.
Botox / Dysport Lip Flip
The lip flip is a less-invasive, less-expensive alternative to lip filler treatments, creating a subtle, natural-looking plump. A Botox® or Dysport® lip flip relaxes the upper part of your lip and gently flips it outward, creating the impression of a more voluminous lip.

What's the difference between Botox and Dysport?
Botox® and Dysport® have similar effects. They both smooth wrinkles by relaxing your muscles. It appears that the biggest difference between the two is the dosage needed. Dysport is a more diluted injectable, so a higher quantity is needed to achieve the same results.
How many units will I need?
How many units of Botox® or Dysport® you need, depends on your anatomy, the area treated, and how much movement you expect to have after the treatment. On average, you can expect:
Forehead: 8-15 units
Frown Lines: 15-20 units
Crow’s Feet: 8-15 units (per side)
Bunny Lines: 2-8 units (per side)
Lip Lines/Lip Flip: 2-8 units
Chin Dimpling: 4-8 units
Are there any side effects or risks?
Botox® and Dysport® injections are very safe when performed by an experienced injector. In fact, only 36 cases of adverse effects associated with cosmetic use were reported to the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) between 1989 and 2003. Possible side effects include pain, swelling, and bruising of the injection site and in rare cases, drooping of the eyelid (ptosis), eye irritation or sensitivity to light.
How long does it take to see results?
You will notice the first effects within a few days of your treatment with the full results showing two weeks later (1-3 days for Dysport®, 3-5 days for Botox®).
How long do results last?
The results from your Botox® or Dysport® treatment will last about three months for your first treatment. After several sessions, results can last longer. However, longevity can be affected by a variety of things, e.g. the area being treated and how your body metabolizes the product.
