What Are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are gel-like substances that are injected under the skin in areas like lips, cheeks, temples, and more. Fillers can be made up of different compounds, e.g. Hyaluronic Acid (HA), Calcium hydroxylapatite or Poly-L-lactic acid. The safest and most common type of filler and the only type we use at A New Dawn Wellness Center is HA-based. Naturally occurring in your body to help your skin retain moisture, hyaluronic acid, when injected, creates plumpness and hydration (think of how plump lips look after a lip filler treatment).
Dermal fillers are one of the most popular cosmetic treatments because results are immediate and can last up to two years depending on what filler is used, e.g. Restylane, Juvéderm or Belotero. We consult with each patient before their filler treatment to evaluate the specific areas of concern and determine the right type of treatment plan to achieve the desired results.
Lip filler or lip augmentation is our most popular dermal filler treatment. Injected into the vermillion border as well as into lip, lip filler can enhance your lip volume, add definition to the lip line or cupid’s bow, or reduce lines around the lips.
Cheek Filler
Age-related volume loss in the mid-face is natural but reversible. By injecting dermal fillers into the cheek and mid-face, we can plump up sunken in and deflated cheeks, rejuvenate the undereyes, and diminish the appearance of nasolabial folds.
Undereye / Tear Trough Filler
By filling in sunken tear troughs that cast a shadow under the eye, tear trough fillers can rejuvenate your entire appearance. However, because it is such a sensitive area, it requires a lot of precision, which is why we use a cannula not a needle to inject this area.
Chin / Jawline Filler
Dermal fillers can also be placed in the chin or along the jawline to sharpen facial contours and enhance the profile.

Does it hurt to get a filler treatment?
Topical numbing cream is applied prior to every dermal filler treatment in order to reduce patient discomfort. However, due to the nature of the treatment and the areas injected (lips, for example, are very sensitive), some level of discomfort is expected. We recommend eating a full meal the morning of your treatment and taking arnica two days prior to the treatment to reduce bruising and swelling.
Are there any side effects or risks?
Fillers are very safe and are approved by the FDA. However, there are a few side effects including bruising, redness, pain, or swelling, all of which should go away within two weeks post-treatment. Less frequently, people experience bumps or lumps under the skin that can be easily dissolved with Lydocaine.
A more severe side effect, vascular occlusion, can occur when filler is injected into the blood vessel, which is why our injectors aspirate (pulling back the plunger of the syringe to ensure no blood is pulled back) prior to any injection.
How do I know which filler is right for me?
How long does it take to see results?
Results can be seen immediately after your filler treatment. However, it can take up to two weeks for filler to settle and swelling to go down completely.
How long do results last?
How long your results last depends on the type of filler used and the area treated. As a rule of thumb, filler in areas that are used more heavily during everyday activities, e.g. lips and cheeks will wear off faster than filler in other areas, e.g. cheeks or undereyes. Most fillers last between 6 months and 2 years.
